The Norwegian top division outfit have secured the signature of the 20-year-old promising winger of Ghanaian descent from his Danish parent club this summer

Danish-born Ghanaian winger Michael Opoku has joined Norwegian Eliteserien club Sarpsborg 08 FF from relegated Danish Superlig side Lyngby on a four-year contract, the club have confirmed.

The youngster, who was also a transfer target for fellow second division side AC Horsens, has finally left his boyhood club in this ongoing transfer window given the hot pursuit by his current employers for the new football season.

"20-year-old Danish winger Michael Opoku has signed a long-term contract with Sarpsborg 08," an official confirmation read.

Opoku said to his club's media channel: "I'm happy! I really hope I take the chance and can contribute on the pitch with a lot of energy and creativity. I know that Sarpsborg are good at developing young players. They are good at taking them to the next level. Sarpsborg plays a nice style of football that suits me well and the club presented a good plan for me. I'm looking forward to it."

Club chief Hampus Andersson added: "Michael is a player we have followed for a long time and also seen live. He has many exciting qualities that we value highly. He has the x-factor in the form of being strong one on one and being a good finisher and with a pretty raw physique."

He continued; "Michael is primarily intended for a role as a left winger, but can also play other positions. The day we were going to sell Sondre Ørjasæter, Michael Opuku was the player we had at the top of our list as a replacement. He is in good shape after a good warm-up with Lyngby and is ready to contribute from day one."

Given his Ghanaian heritage, the Copenhagen-born star still remains fit to play for Ghana on the international stage having played for the Denmark U19 & U20 national youth teams.
