FC Basel have loaned out Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Essiam to Swiss second-tier side FC Aarau until the end of the ongoing season with no option for a permanent move.
Essiam is a fantastic player but is really struggling to command game time at his parent club and is seeking this new challenge in order to hope he stays fully fit and get more minutes in the second phase of the 2024/25 season.
The 21-year-old enforcer was acquired by FC Basel from Ghana Premier League outfit Berekum Chelsea during the 2022 summer transfer window.
He made 21 appearances for the Red and Blues but after a series of lengthy injuries, he was loaned out to FC Stade Lausanne Ouchy last season, where a shoulder operation again slowed him down after just a few months.
The enterprising midfielder return to the St Jakob Park ahead of the ongoing and even signed a new contract extension until 2028 but still struggles to command game time.
Emmanuel Essiam featured prominently for the Ghana U-23 team that failed to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in France and was also an influential member of the Black Satellites that won the WAFU and U-20 in 2020/21.
