The midfielder of Ghanaian descent has joined the English second-tier side on a permanent basis from his mother club ahead of the closure of today's transfer window

Championship side Sheffield United have confirmed the signing of English-born Ghanaian midfielder Alex Matos from Premier League giants Chelsea on a three-year contract.

The 20-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at fellow Championship side Oxford United, is now teaming up with his new side on a permanent basis in this current transfer market.

''United have bolstered midfield options with the permanent addition of a young midfielder with Premier League experience. Alex Matos has penned a three-year deal at Bramall Lane, with the Blades paying Chelsea an undisclosed fee for the services of a player who can operate in a number of positions,'' an official statement read.

The Ghana-prospect winger said of his transfer move to his club's official media: ''When I heard of the interest it was a no-brainer move for me. I feel this is right time for me to move on and play regular football and this is the right club for me. I spoke to Alfie (Gilchrist) and he told me that it's a good club, with good people, and I would enjoy it.

"The loans developed me quite a lot, it is a good league, as has growing up at Chelsea, but I'm very happy to be here now, getting players in recently shows how big a club this is, and it looks like a strong team. Exciting times ahead."

Given his Ghanaian heritage, Matos still remains eligible to represent Ghana at the international level despite playing for the England U20 national team.
