The defender of Ghanaian descent has staged a return to his former employers ahead of the start of the new football season

German-born Ghanaian defender Patric Pfeiffer has rejoined 2. Bundesliga side Darmstadt 98 in an undisclosed period of contract, the club have confirmed.

The 25-year-old towering centre-back is reuniting with the Die Lilien on a permanent basis from elite division club FC Augsburg after spending the second half of the season on loan at FC Magdeburg.

''Patric Pfeiffer will once again wear the Lilien jersey: The 25-year-old central defender, who played for SV 98 from 2019 to 2023, is moving permanently from FC Augsburg to Darmstadt,'' an official statement read.

Pfeiffer has stated right after putting pen to paper on the deal with his current employers via the club's official website: ''I’m very happy to be back here. For me, it feels a bit like coming home. The discussions with Paul Fernie and Florian Kohfeldt were extremely positive and have confirmed my belief that Darmstadt 98 is the right step for me, especially from a sporting perspective. I can hardly wait to get started with my old and new teammates.''

Sporting director Paul Fernie added: ''We’ve been in contact for some time and are happy that the signing has now worked out. Also because, despite many other options, Patric has clearly expressed his desire to return to Darmstadt. He brings a lot of experience, but at 25, Patric is far from the end of his development. We can look forward to a player who won’t need much time to settle in and who will help us with his presence, strength in duels, and versatile opening play.“

He is yet to earn his cap with the Ghana Senior National Team at the international level since switching nationality allegiance to represent the west African powerhouse.
