The 21-year-old defender of Ghanaian heritage has completed his transfer switch to the English fifth tier outfit from their fellow lowly division rivals in this current transfer window

National League side Sutton United have announced the signing of London-born Ghanaian defender Kwaku Donkor from fellow league rivals Tamworth in an undisclosed period of contract.

The ex-Blackpool U18 star is teaming up with the Yellows on a permanent basis and he is now set to play an important role for his new employers for the rest of the ongoing football season.

An excerpt of a statement confirming the capturing of the Ghana-prospect right-back reads: ''Sutton United Football Club is delighted to confirm the permanent signing of Kwaku Donkor from fellow National League side Tamworth.

''Capable of playing at right-back or right wing-back, the 21-year old will bring pace, power, directness and athleticism on the flank, with Chris Agutter looking to bolster his defensive line heading into the second half of the season.

''A product of the Blackpool academy, he first linked with the Tangerines from the Onside Football Academy and signed a two-year scholarship at Blackpool in the summer of 2021, having made the move from London the year before. He will wear the number 50 during his time in SM1. Welcome to Sutton, Kwaku!''

Donkor said right after putting pen to paper on the deal with his new side by telling the club's media channel: ''It’s a pleasure to be here. For me as soon as the gaffer got in touch with me and explained to me the ambition of the club and the goals they have it was something I really wanted to be a part of. When it came down to it, it was a simple choice for me.''

Prior to his transfer switch to the Gander Green Lane Stadium this January, he made 28 appearances across all competitions for Tamworth so far this term.

Given his Ghanaian heritage, the defender still remains eligible to switch nationality allegiance by representing Ghana on the international stage.
