Three Ghanaian players have been nominated for the 2025/26 SPORTY LALIGA MVP award, which recognises the best Sub-Saharan African player in the Spanish topflight after every season.

Ghanaian players that made the list include holder Iñaki Williams of Athletic Club, alongside Thomas Partey of Villarreal CF and Kwasi Sibo, who features for Real Oviedo.

Williams heads into the awards as the man to beat, having won the last two editions in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons, underlining his consistency and importance at Athletic Club.

Partey also earns recognition for his performances with Villarreal, while Sibo’s inclusion highlights his growing influence at Real Oviedo- having started their last eleven matches.

Other notable players that got nominations are Senegal’s Pape Gueye, Djene Dakonam of Togo, Nigerian duo of Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke, former Man United defender Eric Bailly and others.

Other Ghanaian internationals like Joseph Aidoo and Abdul Mumin all missed out.

This is going to be the fifth edition to celebrate the impact of African players in LaLiga, with several top talents across the continent making the shortlist.

Past winners of the award include Williams, who has dominated in recent years, as well as Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze and Yassine Bounou.

With three players in contention this year, Ghana will once again be strongly represented as the race for the prestigious individual honour heats up.
