The 22-year-old has revealed his aspiration to feature for the west African powerhouse in the upcoming global football event to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico in June this year

German-born Ghanaian wing-forward Ernest Poku has said playing for the Ghana national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains an option for him, with The Netherlands and Germany also being factored in over his nationality allegiance switch at the senior level.

The in-form wideman believes he is more than prepared to be at the quadrennial tournament with the four-time African champions if they come calling given his readiness to give of his best as he awaits such an opportunity to come his way in the not-too-distant future.

Speaking in an interview about his desire to play in the global football event, the Bayer Leverkusen man has told Dutch news outlet Sportsnieuws.nl: ''Of course, but the only thing I can do is my best. Those are options (Germany, Ghana and Holland) too, but I haven't heard anything from any of the three yet. I can only wait.''

The Juventus and Napoli transfer target added on the unofficial approach he had received from the west African nation over his international allegiance switch: ''I have heard a few things from Ghana, but those are just fifteen people messaging me and saying they work there. Ultimately, you don't know what to believe anymore. I have indicated that they shouldn't communicate with me. If that is the case, I will hear it from my agent.''

Poku is currently with The Netherlands U21 national youth team preparing for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification against Norway U-21 tomorrow (March 27, 2026).
