Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has etched his name into football history after becoming the first Ghanaian player ever to score in an English FA Cup final.

The Black Stars attacker achieved the landmark moment at Wembley Stadium, scoring the decisive goal in Manchester City FC’s 1–0 victory over Chelsea FC in the 2025/26 final to secure the trophy for Pep Guardiola’s side.

With the contest finely poised after a tense first half, Semenyo produced the breakthrough in the 72nd minute. He reacted quickly inside the box before calmly finishing past the Chelsea goalkeeper, sparking celebrations among City fans and sealing a historic win.

The goal also carries major significance for Ghanaian football. Despite the country producing several Premier League stars over the years — including Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Tony Yeboah, and André Ayew — none had previously scored in the FA Cup final, the oldest domestic cup competition in the world. Semenyo has now changed that record.

Born in England to Ghanaian parents, Semenyo’s journey to the top has been built through steady progression. He rose through the English football system at Bristol City FC, where his pace, power, and direct attacking style quickly marked him out as a standout talent.

Loan spells at Bath City, Newport County, and Sunderland helped shape his development, giving him valuable experience in senior football and sharpening the aggressive edge that defines his game today.

A move to AFC Bournemouth saw his career take another leap forward, as he developed into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous forwards, capable of playing across the front line with high pressing intensity and constant attacking threat.

His performances eventually earned a high-profile transfer to Manchester City during the January window, where he has continued his rapid rise under Guardiola’s guidance.

At City, Semenyo has begun refining the tactical side of his game, improving his movement, decision-making, and composure in front of goal within a structured system designed to maximise attacking efficiency.

Now 25 and entering his prime years, he is increasingly viewed as one of Africa’s most promising attacking talents, with Champions League exposure and elite coaching accelerating his development.

His FA Cup-winning goal against Chelsea may ultimately stand as a defining moment — not only securing silverware for Manchester City, but also announcing Semenyo’s arrival on one of football’s biggest stages.
