Shrewsbury Town have confirmed the signing of Ghanaian defender Kevin Berkoe from Salford City for an undisclosed fee, making him the club’s first addition under new head coach Gavin Cowan.

The deal was completed on transfer deadline day, providing a timely boost to the squad.

The 26-year-old wingback brings versatility and experience, having developed in the academies of Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers before spending the last four years at Salford City. His ability to operate on both the left and right flanks gives Shrewsbury crucial tactical options and depth in defence.

Coach Cowan welcomed the signing, describing it as a strategic move to balance the squad ahead of the season’s second half:

“Kevin adds flexibility and experience. He can play on either side, which gives us options as we continue to build the team,” Cowan said.

Berkoe could feature as early as this Saturday when Shrewsbury travel to face Colchester United, potentially making an immediate impact for the team.

The acquisition highlights Cowan’s intent to strengthen key positions in his opening weeks at Shrewsbury Town, with Berkoe’s adaptability, defensive intelligence, and professional experience seen as vital assets for the league campaign ahead.
