Southampton have rejected a £10 million bid from Italian Serie A side Atalanta for Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, according to a report by Sky Sports News.
The 22-year-old forward has attracted strong interest across Europe following Southampton’s relegation from the English Premier League in the 2023/24 season. While Atalanta were hoping to secure Sulemana’s services with a swift offer, the Saints have made it clear they value the winger much higher and are not prepared to let him go on the cheap.
Sulemana, who joined Southampton from French side Stade Rennais in January 2023, remains one of the club’s most marketable assets despite an injury-hit campaign. The Ghanaian international showed glimpses of brilliance during his time at St. Mary’s, with his pace, dribbling, and direct style continuing to make him an attractive prospect for top clubs.
In addition to Atalanta, fellow Serie A sides Genoa and Torino, as well as Dutch giants Ajax, are all reportedly monitoring the situation closely and could enter the race should Southampton soften their stance or increase their asking price.
The 23-year-old made 26 appearances in the Premier League in the recently concluded season, scoring one goal and providing an assist across the period.
Sulemana will compete in the English Championship in the upcoming campaign if he is unable to secure a move from Southampton this summer. The Saints struggled in the recently concluded Premier League season, finishing bottom with just 12 points from 38 matches.
Currently under contract until 2027, the pacey Ghanaian winger has yet to decide his future. While on holiday, the former FC Nordjaelland and Stade Rennais star is weighing up his options, having attracted interest from several clubs in Europe.
Aside, Atalanta, Sulemana is on the wishlist of fellow Serie A club Genoa and Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.
