Cercle Brugge midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has promised Ghanaians of a qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ghana are on the verge of securing its fifth qualification to the World Cup with four matches to end the Africa's qualifying round of games.
Agyekum said he and his teammates can't disappoint the West African nation in the remaining games in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
"We will give the best we can to make sure we qualify for the World Cup and then to put smiles on the faces of Ghanaians," Agyekum said.
He also emphasized the importance of fans support, stating that the team can't achieve their goal without it.
Agyekum stressed that support of Ghanaians is crucial, saying, "We need the fans behind the team because we can't do it without them."
The Black Stars will travel to face Chad and play its West African counterparts, Mali at home in September, in their next World Cup qualifiers.
Agyekum is cementing his place in the Black Stars team under coach Otto Addo after making his debut for the senior national team in a in a 5-0 win over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium in a 2026 World Cup Qualifier.
He registered his first-ever goal for Ghana during the 2025 Unity Cup games against Trinidad and Tobago in London last month.
In March 2025, Agyekum was acquired by Belgian club Cercle Brugge on a permanent deal from RB Salzburg after a successful season-long loan spell at the club.
