Former Ghanaian international Samuel Osei Kuffour has hailed Vincent Kompany following Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga title success, stating the Belgian-Congolese is making a very strong case for black-skinned coaches in European football.

Bayern secured their 35th league title over the weekend with a 4-2 win over VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena, capping off a dominant campaign that saw them crowned champions with four games to spare.

The Bavarians also set a new scoring record, netting 105 goals so far to become a club with the most goals in a single Bundesliga campaign, breaking the previous record of 101 in 1971/72, that was held by the same club.

Reacting to the achievement, Kuffour praised Kompany’s rapid rise in management and the impact of his success beyond the pitch.

“Vincent Kompany is one of the top young coaches. He has opened so many doors and he is young. It’s probably an opportunity for Michael Essien, who is now into coaching to have the opportunity. The door is wide open for black coaches,” he said.

The former Bayern defender also highlighted Kompany’s progress in Europe, noting the team’s Champions League run as another sign of his quality.

“He won the league. Went out last year quarter final against Real Madrid, and then now he is in the semi-final of the Champions League. He is the first black coach to train in Germany. We now have a black coach coaching one of the top clubs in the world.”

Vincent Kompany’s success has seen him win two league titles with Bayern while guiding the club to the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League and will hope to win for the first time since 2020.
