Swedish Allsvenskan side Halmstads BK have released defender Thomas Boakye following the expiration of his contract.
The 31-year-old Ghanaian, who managed 179 appearances and scored seven goals, has been let go by HBK ahead of the new campaign.
“Thomas has served HBK with dedication, but his recent challenges have made it difficult for him to compete at his usual level,” club coach Johan Lindholm told Halmstad based newspaper Hallandsposten.
“To be fair to himself, it’s time for him to find new opportunities.”
Before the 2018 season, Boakye signed for Halmstad in the Swedish second division, helping them achieve promotion to the Swedish top flight.
