Umar Bashiru, Ethiopia Nigd Bank's star midfielder, has been nominated for the Ethiopian Premier League Player of the Year award.

 

This is the second time the former Asante Kotoko and Karela United playmaker has been nominated after a prolific season in the BetKing Ethiopian Premier League. 

 

The Ghanaian will be hoping to scoop the top gong after scoring 7 goals and picking up well chunk of assists in 30 matches as Nigd Bank clinch the title in their maiden appearance in the top flight last season.

 

Bashiru is joined by Bahir Dar Kenema FC's Chernet Gugesa Beshah on the shortlist, with Fetuhdin Abdul Karim. Kenean Markneh Maleko of Defence Force SC has also been nominated. 

 

Defender Shemeles Tegegn along with Hawassa City Eritrean forward Ali Suleiman Salih is another player who enjoyed himself in front of goal in the recently-ended season and makes the cut. Wolaitta Dicha goalkeeper Biniam Genetu complete the list.

 

The winner for the prestigious gong will be announced next month, August 2024.
