French Ligue 1 heavyweights Olympique Lyon have announced the loan signing of Ghanaian young sensation Ernest Nuamah from RWD Molenbeek in this summer transfer window.

Nuamah is joining Lyon on a season-long loan deal from Belgian Jupilier League outfit RWD Molenbeek after passing a mandatory medical examination few days ago.

He joined RWD Molenbeek, which is affiliate club of Lyon, from FC Nordsjaelland in a transfer worth a fixed fee of €25 million and €5 million add-ons.

The club's official statement reads “Olympique Lyonnais is delighted with the signing of Ernest Nuamah, considered one of the future great hopes in his position, who will be the second Ghanaian footballer in the history of the club after Michaël Essien, his assistant coach at Nordsjaelland, between 2003 and 2005.”

Nuamah scored 15 goals and delivered 4 assists in 34 matches across all competitions last season for FC Nordsjaelland.

The teenager capped off an impressive 2022-23 season with three individual awards, which are Young Player of the Year, Best Player for Spring (voted by coaches) and the Player of the Season (voted by players).

He has already hit the ground running in the 2023-24 season, having netted a hatrick in the opening league game. He was voted best player and best young player of the month of July.

Nuamah made his senior debut last month when he came on a substitute when Ghana faced Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Antananarivo.

He was also part of the Ghana team at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he scored one goal in three games
