The Spanish top-flight campaigners have joined the growing queue in pursuit of the Ghanaian tough-tackling defender ahead of the upcoming season
Spanish LaLiga side Villarreal CF have joined the race to sign Ghana international centre-back Alexander Djiku, a report from the French media has claimed.
The former SC Bastia defender has hit the free agency pool after exhausting his contract with French Ligue 1 outfit RC Strasbourg Alsace in this summer.
A host of clubs across Europe are currently shooting admiring glances at the hard-tackling guardsman in their bid to lure him and French outlet L' Equipe are now reporting that the Villarreal-based club are now also in the frame to acquire the services of the defender to augment their backline with his acquisition ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
English Premier League side Nottingham Forest F.C, Turkish giants Fenerbahçe SK and German Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart are all chasing after Djiku's signature, with the first two suitors tabling formal offers in a bid to land him next term.
It's understood that RC Strasbourg Alsace are hell-bent on keeping their captain and with the recent investment by BlueCo, owners of Chelsea Football Club, the 28-year-old could stay put at the Stade de la Meinau for next term campaign.
He made over 120 appearances for RC Strasbourg Alsace since joining them from SM Caen in 2019.
He has been capped 20 times by Ghana at the senior national team level, the Black Stars after opting to represent them on the international stage.
