Former Black Stars coach, James Kwesi Appiah has advised the current gaffer Chris Hughton, to be bold and take the right decisions in terms of selection and believes that will really help the team in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The English gaffer announced his final 27-man squad for the tournament last Monday at Alisa Hotel in Accra, with notable players like Thomas Partey, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Baba Rahman, Tariq Lamptey, all missing out.
The team officially begun camping last Tuesday in Kumasi and are expected to spend nine days in the Garden City to have themselves well organized and gelled before they depart to Cote D'Ivoire on January 10, 2023.
In a recent interview, Kwesi Appiah- who is currently the head coach of Sudan, feels Ghana has a very strong squad that can compete at the highest level and added they will go far in the competition if the coach makes the right decisions.
"I think we’ve got a good squad. I’m in support of the players selected by the coach for the tournament but the only thing I am hoping for is the coach being bold to take decisions as to who should play or who should be on the bench and ones he is able to the do that, looking at the list I think they can compete at any level” he said
The four-time champions have been housed in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will commence on January 13, 2024.
