Expressing his joy, Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey shares his excitement after being named in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 26-year-old central midfielder secured a place in the final 27-man squad, a decision announced by Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton on Monday morning.

Lamptey, one of the three local players selected, considers this achievement an honor and expresses gratitude to Otumfuo, past and present Kotoko management, supporters, and teammates.

“It’s an honour, feels good, and I’m very happy. I would like to thank Otumfuo, past and present management of Kotoko, supporters and my teammates”

Reflecting on his journey, Lamptey mentions, "Growing up, I dreamt of playing for the Black Stars, and for me to be included in the 27-man squad, it’s an honour and I’m very happy."

As Ghana initiates its preparations in Kumasi, Lamptey looks forward to the friendly against Namibia on January 8, 2024, before the team departs for Abidjan.

The Black Stars find themselves in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique for the AFCON tournament.
