The 2024 Ashanti Regional Inter-School and Colleges boys football competition came to a thrilling close today at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Today's proceedings featured the bronze medal match and the final game.
The third place-playoff was between Opoku Ware School and Sakafia SHS with the former dominating from start to finish having humiliated the latter by a convincing 4-1 victory in the end to clinch the third spot.
Fresh from the excitement of the bronze medal match, the stage was set for the final showdown between record holders Osei Kyeretwie SHS and one-time winners Simms SHS.
OKESS drew first blood, through Joshua Fuseini with the game becoming a closely contested one with both teams taking the game at each other resulting into even exchanges.
Just as it seemed OKESS would take their lead into the break, Humado had other plans, scoring a dramatic equalizer in the dying minutes of the first half to split the score.
The intensity of the match continued into the second half, with both teams creating series of goal-scoring opportunities, knocking the doors of each other looking to jump into the lead.
Eventually, it was the 'Ahenemma' outfit who made their chances count having restored their lead through Theophilus Ayamga in the early minutes from recess, putting his team ahead for the second time in the game.
However, in a stunning turn of events, Evans Abongo stepped up to slot in a wonderful free-kick in the dying embers to send the game into penalties.
The penalty shootouts was a nail-biting affair, with OKESS ultimately emerging victorious with a 3-2 win in the end.
This historic win marked Osei Kyeretwie SHS's first ever championship title since 2008, and extended their record to an unprecedented nine-time winners - with their grand masters tag in the Ashanti Regional Inter-School competition still intact.
