The 2024 'Top 4' tournament will officially commence on August 18, at the newly-built TNA Stadium in Tarkwa, the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has confirmed.

The 'Top 4' competition has been in session for the past two decades and more, and is mostly competed by the best four clubs in the Ghana Premier League after every season with the number of partaking teams increasing occasionally.

Ordinarily, the top four of the just-finished 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season were supposed to compete in this year's edition but Berekum Chelsea will be the only genuine qualified club this year.

This is due to the fact that, champions FC Samartex and fourth-placed Nsoatreman FC have all pulled out due to their upcoming campaigns in the CAF inter-club competitions.

Also, the reason for the exclusion of clubs like Accra Lions and Aduana Stars hasn't been revealed yet whiles Asante Kotoko opted out due to their initial plans to hold preseason in Europe.

Hearts of Oak are definitely out this year having finished on the 14th spot last season with 45 points- after a long week of flirting around the relegation zone.

This year's 'Top 4' will comprise of Berekum Chelsea, Nations FC, Bechem United and host Medeama SC. The competition will be held in an all-play-all fashion and the club with most points in the end will emerge champions.

It will be played within a week, with three match-days in between and will run from August 18-25.

This competition mostly serves as a proper pre-season tourney for these clubs to prepare and test their strengths ahead of every new season.
