PAOK defender, Baba Abdul Rahman, has reportedly requested to be excluded from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Despite being initially named in the 55-man provisional squad for the tournament, which is set to begin in two weeks, the former Chelsea player is expected to miss the journey to Abidjan, having already communicated his intentions to the technical team.

Approaching the age of 30 and with an extensive record of over half a century of games for the national team, Rahman is thought to be making way for other players. The decision raises uncertainty about his return to the team after the Africa Cup of Nations, despite his wealth of experience in international tournaments.

Rahman's last appearance for the Black Stars was in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Central African Republic in September.

The former Asante Kotoko player has showcased remarkable form for the Greek club PAOK since returning to the team in the summer transfer window.
