Asante Kotoko SC's dynamic midfielder, Richmond Nii Lamptey, has clinched a spot in Ghana's final squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote d'Ivoire.

The 26-year-old central midfielder's inclusion in the 27-man roster, revealed by Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton, comes after Lamptey's notable performance in the Ghana Premier League this season.

Initially part of the 55-man preliminary squad, Lamptey garnered attention for his exceptional display in the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak, where Kotoko secured a 3-2 victory at the Baba Yara Stadium. The football community praised his contributions, leading to widespread calls for his inclusion in the final squad.

Throughout the campaign, Lamptey proved instrumental for the Porcupine Warriors, amassing five assists in 12 appearances and contributing to the team's impressive six-match unbeaten streak.

Hughton's preference for Lamptey over other midfield options underscores the player's significance as Ghana prepares for the tournament scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

In Group B, the Black Stars will contend with football powerhouses Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde during the group phase of the AFCON 2023.
