A leading presidential hopeful in Ghana has drastic punitive measures in mind for sports betting.
Hassan Ayariga, the founder of the All People’s Congress (APC) and a presidential candidate in the 2020 general elections has sent shivers into the spine of betting enthusiasts — reiterating his stand stating blatantly "he is against betting".
“Betting is for the lazy, and I will abolish it if I become president,” Ayariga said in an interview with 3FM.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on Tuesday, August 15, started with the implementation of a 10% withholding tax on all gross gaming winnings.
The Domestic Tax Revenue Division at the GRA further explained that the new policy is in line with an amendment to the Income Tax Act 2023 (No.2), Act 1094.
However, the youth of Ghana are against it - constantly calling for the abolishment of the 10% withholding tax on all gross gaming winnings.
