Former Black Stars defender, John Paintsil has rallied behind Chris Hughton and believes he needs just time and support and will rise the senior national team back to the highest echelon.

The 64-year-old took over the Black Stars early this year as replacement for Otto Addo and ultimately supervised the team through four matches in the qualifiers and managed to secure qualification to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The ex- Brighton manager has played seven matches so far since taking over the four-time African champions- having won three, drawn two and lost two.

He was unbeaten until the last international window where he lost to North American giants Mexico and USA- all in international friendlies.

This has brought so much pressure on the technical team to deliver, with some football fans calling for their sack as soon as possible.

With this, the ex- Fulham and West Ham lateral feels Hughton has started really well and is very optimistic he will raise the standard of the team once again if he's handed the needed backing.

"So far, his appointment time is short. However, looking at the results he has achieved since he took over, I think it's acceptable. What we need to do is to support him, especially football people who understand the game."

"Hughton is an excellent coach. He has a track record in England, and considering the players he invites, it's evident he knows what he wants to do for the nation. So, for me, he is good. So far, I will say he is doing well, and we need to support him."

John Paintsil played for the Black Stars for twelve solid years and featured in two FIFA World Cups.
