Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has expressed the need to allow the Black Stars more time to develop and build cohesion under the guidance of coach Chris Hughton.
The Black Stars have faced criticism and public pressure for their lackluster performance in international friendly matches held in October as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. They suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Mexican national team and a significant 4-0 loss against the United States Men's National Team.
Despite these disappointing results, Kwesi Appiah believes that the team needs time to come together and establish better cohesion and performance under Chris Hughton's leadership.
"Black Stars need a bit of time to gel," Appiah commented during an interview with Asempa FM.
"As a coach, you will have to pick positives from the results, and that also helps you to build a good team and in your decision-making for the progression of the team.
"Sometimes when you win, it has its negative effect as well, so I will only say let's give ourselves the time to shape the team," he added.
Before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations takes place in Ivory Coast next year, Chris Hughton and the team will face Madagascar and Comoros in the initial two matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
