Ghana senior women national team - Black Queens have dropped one place in the latest FIFA Women’s ranking that was released earlier today despite their impressive WAFCON run
The Queens returned to the continental showpiece after a long abeyance with their last appearance coming in 2018 when Ghana last hosted the competition
The Black Queens had a jittery start to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after going without a win in their opening two matches but redeemed themselves subsequently to clinch bronze at the end of the tournament
Following the impressive campaign, Ghana was expected to rise in the next FIFA ranking but have dropped from 66th to 67th worldwide, but maintained their sixth spot in Africa with a total points build-up of 1390.74.
The top ten in Africa comprises of Nigeria (36), South Africa (54), Morocco (64), Zambia (65), Cameroon (66), Ghana (67), Côte d’Ivoire (71), Mali (79), Algeria (80) and Senegal (81)
Despite losing the recent Euros to England, Spain remain number 1 worldwide while European champions England are in fourth place. USA occupy second spot while South America champions Brazil sit seventh on the list
The Black Queens are expected to regroup later this year to begin preparations towards the next WAFCON qualifiers
