President of New Edubiase United FC, Abdul Salam Yakubu, famously known as ‘Sabato’, has strongly opposed the idea of introducing a third term for Ghana Football Association Presidents as he believes eight years is enough for everyone.
Normally, it is two terms of four years each for everyone that assumes the GFA Presidency role but also has the opportunity to land a third term if it is approved by the football people.
Current GFA boss Kurt Edwin Simon Okraku has been in charge since October 2019 and is now almost two years in his second term but will hope for an approval in order to go in for a third term, which has now divided opinions among Ghanaian football fans and also in the media.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the experienced administrator strongly objected the idea stating going past two terms as the GFA President doesn’t make any sense. He said eight years should be enough for everyone to fulfill their promises and achieve success in every administration
He furthered on by disagreeing with the Ghana FA that some of the clubs are in support and added they should bring out the list of names of those clubs
"I have written to the FA to demand the number of clubs that have proposed for the extension of the presidential mandate."
"Kurt Okraku has more than two years to finish his second term, and so I believe that eight years is enough for every president to do what he can for our football.
"I will tell Kurt Okraku just to finish his second term and leave. This third term is not needed in our game. I have made stand known to all that I don't support this, and I'll always stand by it," he added.
The 31st Ghana Football Association Ordinary Congress, where the final decision on the possible third term will be made, is slated for Monday, August 12, 2025
