Budding striker Jerry Afriyie has received a late call-up to the Back Stars squad ahead of their international friendly against Mexico.
The 19-year-old forward was not included in the initial squad but has now joined the Black Stars team camp as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His arrival gives new Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz another chance to assess his form before naming the final squad for the tournament.
Afriyie spent the 2025/26 season on loan at RAAL La Louviere in the Belgian Pro League, where he enjoyed a steady campaign.
The teenager made 31 league appearances, scoring five goals and providing one assist during the season.
His performances have now earned him the opportunity to fight for a place in Ghana’s World Cup squad.
The friendly against Mexico on Friday, May 22, will serve as an important test for the Black Stars ahead of the global showpiece.
For players pushing for selection, including Afriyie, the match offers a valuable chance to impress the coaching staff against the El Tri of Mexico.
The game is also part of Ghana’s preparations for a difficult World Cup group featuring Panama, England and Croatia.
