Ghana U-17 coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness as the Black Starlets prepare to face Nigeria in the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championships later today.
A win in Yamoussoukro will not only secure a place in the tournament final but also book Ghana’s ticket to the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Narteh Ogum said: “We feel good. Everyone is okay, and the common spirit of the team is very high, and the boys are confident, and each of them is very ready to get the results to book a place for the AFCON in Morocco.”
He also highlighted improvements in the team’s defensive organisation, noting that lessons had been learned from earlier matches.
“In terms of the errors we committed in our previous games, we have identified them through video sessions and we’ve worked on them, so we expect that there will be an improvement over the defensive shape that you saw in our previous games,” he added.
The Black Starlets secured their spot in the semi-finals after a convincing 3-1 victory over Niger in their final Group A match last week, setting up a high-stakes encounter with the Nigerians at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.
The big clash against the Golden Eaglets kicks off at 7pm GMT on Tuesday, September 30.
