The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has generously donated $10,000 to the Hasaacas Ladies FC to support their preparation for the WAFU Zone B Women's CAF Champions League Qualifiers.
The Hasmal Ladies received the donation which was to support their pursuit to qualify to the main tournament.
The cash gift was handed to the team today (Wednesday) at Oak Plaza on behalf of the Vice President by the Head of Communications at the Office of the Vice President, Tamimu Issah, who also channeled a special goodwill message to the team from the second gentleman of the land.
“The Vice President has been a strong supporter of female football. As you can recall a few years ago when Hasaacas qualified for the first-ever CAF Champions League zonal championship in Ivory Coast, the team launched a public appeal for support to enable them participate in the competition," Tamimu said.
"His excellency saw the public appeal…he responded positively and supported them with some money that cushioned them to support in that competition.
“He’s remained committed to supporting women’s football and Ghanaian female champions; he did the same to Ampem Darkoa Ladies and this year Hasaacas have qualified again.
“He congratulated them publicly for winning the league and qualifying once again to the championship and said he was looking forward to meeting them ahead of competition in Côte d’Ivoire.
“The team is scheduled to leave Ghana tomorrow to participate in the championship so he sent me to extend his support to them; we are supporting them with $10,000 to cushion them for the championship.”
The management, technical, and the playing body of Hasaacas Ladies expressed their profound appreciation to Vice President Bawumia for his surprise gift.
The five-time Ghana women’s champions have been paired in Group B with Burkina Faso side Omnisports Etincelle, Nigeria's Edo Queens and AS Garde National of Niger.
