Ghanaian coach Chris Hughton has unveiled the formidable 27-man squad set to represent the nation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted in Ivory Coast.

The selection includes key players poised to play pivotal roles in the highly anticipated tournament.

Notable inclusions feature West Ham's prolific forward, Mohammed Kudus, who brings goal-scoring prowess with an impressive tally of 10 goals across all competitions. Athletic Bilbao's sharpshooter, Inaki Williams, strengthens the squad's attacking capabilities with his commendable record of eight goals.

The defensive lineup receives a boost with the inclusion of Monaco's resilient defender, Mohammed Salisu, who overcame early-season injury challenges.

During a press conference held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Hughton emphasized the importance of making bold decisions in finalizing the squad. Exclusions from the lineup include Baba Rahman and Fatawu Issahaku, who opted out, along with the injured duo Kamaldeen Sulemana and Tariq Lamptey.

An exciting addition to the squad is Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey, recognized for outstanding performances in the Ghana Premier League. Lamptey is one of three home-based players, joining Medeama duo Fatawu Hamidu and striker Jonathan Sowah.

The team is scheduled to commence its pre-tournament camp in Kumasi from January 2, gearing up for the challenging encounters in Ivory Coast. The Black Stars, four-time African champions, find themselves in Group B, facing tough opponents Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.

The AFCON 2023 journey kicks off with a compelling match against Cape Verde on January 14, followed by crucial encounters against Egypt and Mozambique.
