Giants Asante Kotoko have withdrawn from the 2023 GHALCA Top Four Tournament which is billed to commence early next month with immediate effect.
The mini-competion will revert back to the traditional top four, having faced series of dynamics; from GHALCA G6 to G8 for the past years.
Ideally, the teams to partake in this year's edition include champions Medeama SC, Aduana Stars, Bechem United and Asante Kotoko since they were the top four finishers in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.
However, the recent happenings with the Porcupine Warriors; dissolution of the board and others has forced them to pull out and tackle those pressing needs in order to get themselves ready for next season.
In an exclusive interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, this report was authenticated by the GHALCA boss Kudjoe Fianoo who confirmed Kotoko's withdrawal and the way forward.
"Yes, it is no more a rumour, we received an official letter from Kotoko yesterday which stated that they can't participate in the tournament and as we are all aware of the current situation of Kotoko, it's not a deliberate decision to sabotage the tournament but a genuine one and we have accepted their request."
The competition will begin on August 6, and is expected to run until August 13, 2023 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
