Former Hearts of Oak captain Jacob Nettey will take over as the interim coach of Ghana’s U17 national team, the Black Starlets, following the resignation of head coach Laryea Kingston.
Kingston's resignation comes in the wake of the Starlets' shock defeat to Burkina Faso in the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship on Saturday. Although Kingston had decided to step down before the tournament began, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has now accepted his resignation and provided further details on the transition.
The GFA has assigned Nettey, along with assistant coach Nana Agyemang, to lead the team for the remainder of the tournament. Nettey, who captained Hearts of Oak to a CAF Champions League victory in 2000, brings significant experience to his new role.
The Black Starlets are set to face Nigeria in the third-place playoff of the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.
