The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has assigned Nana Agyemang and ex-Hearts of Oak captain Jacob Nettey to takeover coaching duties at the Ghana's U17 national team, following the resignation of head coach Laryea Kingston.

Kingston's resignation comes in the wake of the Starlets' shock defeat to Burkina Faso in the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship on Saturday. Although Kingston had decided to step down before the tournament began, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has now accepted his resignation and provided further details on the transition in a statement.

The GFA has assigned coach Nana Agyemang and Nettey to lead the team for the remainder of the tournament. Both were assistant coaches to Laryea Kingston.

Nettey captained Hearts of Oak to a CAF Champions League triumph in 2000 and expected to deliver with Nana Agyemang against Nigeria in the third-place game.

The Black Starlets are set to face Nigeria on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 in the third-place playoff of the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.
