Asante Kotoko have terminated the contract of defender Kwasi Asante just five months after he joined the club during the January 2025 transfer window, kickgh.com can exclusively report.
The mutual termination comes after the player failed to make a single appearance for the Porcupine Warriors due to persistent injury setbacks.
Kwasi Asante, 29, was brought in as part of Kotoko’s mid-season squad strengthening efforts. Highly rated for his versatility and physical presence at the back, the former Hafia Club of Guinea and Simba FC, player was expected to add depth and experience to Kotoko’s defensive line.
However, the left-back struggled with multiple injuries shortly after joining the team, sidelining him from training sessions and matchday squads. Despite undergoing rehabilitation under the club’s medical team, Asante failed to regain full fitness.
Sources close to the club reveal that both parties held discussions in recent weeks and agreed that a contract termination would be in the best interest of the player and the club.
Kotoko is understood to have compensated the player as part of the mutual agreement.
Asante is now a free agent and will be looking to regain his fitness and revive his career ahead of the 2025/26 season.
