Volta Region came from behind to defeat favourites Ashanti Region by 3-2 at Prampram last Sunday, October 27, to clinch the maiden GFA Elite Boys U-15 Colts Championship.
Both regions recorded an outstanding run heading into the final having finished as winners of Group A and B with a perfect record of winning all four games they played in the first phase of the tourney.
The final game lived up to the height with both teams exhibiting some quality football with Ashanti Region striking first in the 37th minute through Nathaniel Owusu who netted his fourth of the competition.
Volta Region responded quickly having netted twice in the space of five minutes courtesy Edem Giant and Edem Agbeve to lead 2-1 at half time.
Prince Tornye sealed the win for the champions after 76 minutes into the game with Mohammed Sani Zakaria also scoring four minutes later to pull one back for Ashanti as it finished 3-2 after full time.
The thrilling final was graced by GFA President Kurt Okraku and other top dignitaries in our game who helped presented the trophy and medals to the two regions.
The GFA U-15 Boys Colts Championship is part of the FIFA Talent Development Scheme which offers the platform for young football prospects in the country to showcase their talents and gain competitive experience.
