The Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have agreed to establish a five-member Technical Search Committee to identify and recommend a new head coach for the Black Stars following Ghana’s poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The decision was reached at a meeting between the two institutions on October 2, 2026, to discuss the declining performance of Ghana’s national teams and measures to improve football development.
Ghana lost their opening two AFCON qualifying matches, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire before a disappointing 4-2 home loss to The Gambia. The results have increased concerns about the direction of the senior national team.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry, the five-member committee will be responsible for scouting and recommending a new head coach for the Black Stars.
The committee has been given until Friday, October 9, 2026, to submit its report, as authorities seek to address concerns surrounding the team’s performance and management.
The appointment process forms part of wider measures agreed by the Ministry and the GFA to strengthen national team management, improve coaching and restore confidence in Ghana football.
