Former member of the Black Stars Management Committee, Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer has advised Black Stars coach Otto Addo to hand call-ups to players for the upcoming World Cup based on merit.

Palmer, who is a well known figure in Ghana football - in an interview with Asempah FM, the Tema Youth bankroller revealed players should only be invited to the senior national team based, solely on merit.

"Nobody should try and influence the technical team led by, Otto Addo, to take decisions that will be challenged later," he said.

"The coach will have to come and rationalize why I chose this player and not that player.

Palmer went ahead to state that Ghana will reach the semifinals of the global showpiece if things are done right in terms of satisfactory player call-ups.

"We should be able to make it to the semifinals, that is if we do the right thing and this is selection on merit. It is very important for the team if we want the Black Stars to perform," he added.

The Black Stars will open their 2022 World Cup campaign against Portugal on November 24, before going on to face South Korea and Uruguay – with Otto Addo under pressure to deliver another reversal of fortune.
