Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has voiced firm opposition to suggestions that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo should be dismissed, insisting now is not the time for change.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach is on the cusp of leading Ghana to a second consecutive FIFA World Cup appearance, with the team needing just a point from their final qualifier against Comoros to seal their place at the 2026 tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The Black Stars head into Sunday’s clash at the Accra Sports Stadium buoyed by a resounding 5–0 victory over the Central African Republic, yet debate over Addo’s long-term future continues to stir.

But Afriyie believes removing Addo at this stage would be counterproductive. Instead, he has called for additional technical support to bolster the coaching setup.

“Sacking Otto Addo at this point is not the right decision,” Afriyie told Asempa FM. “We should get a more qualified coach to support Otto Addo.”
