Ghana captain, Andre Ayew was mysteriously absent from the match day squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Ayew's close friend, Ben Osei Bonsu, disclosed on Asempa FM's SportsNite show that the captain's name was not included in the squad, and he might not be happy with his removal from the squad for Ghana's 1-0 victory over Angola.
Despite being seen warming up on the touchline, Ayew was not subbed on because his name was not on the list provided by the manager for the game. Coach Chris Hughton later explained that he had made the decision to drop Ayew from the squad.
However, Ayew's friend, Osei Bonsu, claimed that the team manager, Ameenu Shardow, mistakenly left the captain's name out of the matchday squad, and he left the Ghana camp after sustaining injuries during and after the game, together with defender Alexander Djiku.
“What we heard was that the Team Manager of the Black Stars, Ameenu Shardow, forgot to include the name of Andre Ayew in the matchday squad for the game,” he told Enoch Worlanyo on Asempa FM’s SportsNite show.
“Some of these excuses are flimsy and it is not proper for us to make it go like that. It is very sad but we should eschew politics from our football. We should know how to manage things when we belong to a different camp. We are all trying to take out unnecessary tension and politics from our Black Stars. But, if some of these things won’t stop it won’t help us,” he added.
