The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has criticised the standard of Ghana Premier League, especially officiating, claiming "It is at its poorest".
Iddrisu, who is a football enthusiast and owner of Karela United and Steadfast FC expressed apprehension regarding the poor condition of the country's football.
However, he went ahead to comment on the devastating occurrences which happened at Nsoatre on Sunday, 2nd February 2025, during the GPL matchday 19 game between Nsoatreman and Kotoko.
“Our football is not in the best of shapes. Look at the incidents in Nsoatreman. Officiating is at its poorest and our Premier League is not watched,” Haruna Iddrisu said on the floor of parliament on Tuesday night, February 4.
His comments mirror an increasing vexation among stakeholders in the football fraternity, as poor officiating persistently afflicts matches and discourages fans from attending games, fundamentally affecting the sport’s viewership and fame.
