Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has reaffirmed the country’s readiness to host the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in March, insisting that plans for the tournament remain unchanged.

Ghana were awarded the hosting right early this year but there were worrying claims recently that, it can be stripped off due to the poor nature of the various stadiums which will mean the Satellites will miss out on the continental showpiece automatically.

Asante Twum said Ghana remains confident in its ability to stage the competition, dismissing suggestions that the hosting arrangements had changed.

“We will host the 2027 U-20 AFCON in March. Nothing has changed, and we still have what it takes to host the tournament,” he told MAX FM.

The renowned journalist further explained that President Kurt Okraku’s decision to pursue hosting rights for youth competitions forms part of a broader plan to support the development of Ghana football.

“President Kurt Okraku had a reason for bringing junior tournaments to Ghana because he knows that if we do not host any of them, we are not ready to grow,” he said.

Henry Asante Twum also noted that Ghana has not hosted a major international football tournament since the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. He said Okraku hopes the country can successfully organise another competition, with the 2027 U-20 AFCON presenting an opportunity to achieve that ambition.
