President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo believes that the Black Stars will be the first African nation to win the World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana was the first sub-sahara African nation to gain independence in 1957 from the British colonial rule.

The senior national team of Ghana qualified for the global showpiece for the fourth time after edging out Nigeria in the final play-off games in March.

The Black Stars will hope to make it out of Group H alongside Uruguay, South Korea or Portugal.

Ghana will play their first game against Portugal on 24th November, after engaging Switzerland in their last pre-World Cup friendlies in Dubai.

The Black Stars squad for their friendly games against Brazil and Nicaragua later this month is expected to be announced by next weekend.

Ghana's Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare speaking on behalf of the President said he is optimistic that the Black Stars will be the first African nation to win the World Cup.

"We, who were the first to gain our freedom and independence from colonial rule, will be the first to bring the World Cup to Africa," the President said.

"I am of the firm conviction that Ghana will not only participate in the competition but will make the whole nation and by extension the African continent proud, with a great performance," he added.
