Ghana’s beach soccer scene has reached a historic milestone as Alexander Adjei, captain of Sea Sharks Beach Soccer Club, officially joins Barcelona Beach Soccer Club in Spain, becoming the first Ghanaian beach soccer player to sign a professional contract overseas.
Adjei’s move marks a major breakthrough for the sport in Ghana and Africa, symbolizing a new chapter for beach soccer talent on the continent. The prolific forward, who hails from the coastal town of Teshie, is widely recognized as one of Africa’s premier beach soccer stars.
A two-time top scorer at the Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations, Adjei netted 17 goals in Seychelles 2015 and added 11 more in Egypt 2024, where Ghana narrowly missed out on a FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup spot. His remarkable goal-scoring feats have made him a standout both domestically and internationally.
Renowned for his power, speed, and clinical finishing, Adjei has been instrumental for both the Sea Sharks and the national team, the Black Sharks. His leadership and goal-scoring ability have set the standard for aspiring beach soccer players across the country.
Ghana beach soccer pioneer Yaw Ampofo Ankrah hailed Adjei’s move as a game-changing moment for the sport. “Alex is a beacon of hope,” he said. “This move will inspire countless young beach soccer players in Ghana and across Africa.”
Barcelona Beach Soccer’s Brazilian coach, Leo Braga, confirmed the signing and expressed his enthusiasm: “This is a very exciting moment for the club and for Alex. We’ve been tracking his development and believe he can add a new dynamic to our attack.”
Adjei, speaking after the announcement, expressed his pride and excitement: “This is a dream come true. I’ve worked hard for this moment, and I’m proud to carry the Ghana flag into the international beach soccer arena.”
The move is being celebrated as a landmark achievement for Beach Soccer Ghana and a testament to the rising global recognition of African talent in the sport.
