Ghana Premier League stars Benjamin Asare, Razak Simpson, and Kwame Opoku have been called up to the Black Stars squad for the upcoming Unity Cup, set to take place in London later this month.

The trio departed Ghana on Friday night as they head to the UK to join the national team camp ahead of the inaugural edition of the four-nation tournament, which features Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who impressed in Ghana’s back-to-back victories during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March, has continued to solidify his place in the squad. Asare earned the call-up shortly after helping Hearts secure a 3-1 league win before his departure.

Nations FC defender Razak Simpson also received a call-up following a standout season. His club currently leads the Ghana Premier League standings, but they will be without their reliable defensive anchor when they face reigning champions FC Samartex this weekend.

Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku, another notable inclusion, will likewise miss his club's crucial clash against Bibiani GoldStars. Opoku has been in fine form, scoring twice in his last league outing and ranking among the top scorers in the league.

Ghana will begin their Unity Cup campaign with a high-profile encounter against Nigeria on Tuesday, May 28, at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford. The winner of that semifinal will progress to the final on May 31, while the loser will contest the third-place playoff earlier the same day.

The Black Stars are scheduled to officially open camp on Sunday, May 25, in Accra before travelling. The tournament is part of Ghana's build-up to their next 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Mali in September.
