Ghana international Baba Rahman has earned a recall to the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2025 Unity Cup, marking his return to the national team setup after a lengthy absence.
The experienced left-back, who plies his trade with Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki, has been included in Otto Addo’s 26-man squad for the four-nation invitational tournament scheduled to take place in London from May 28 to June 4. Ghana will face Nigeria in the opening fixture at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Rahman's inclusion comes as a boost to Ghana’s defensive options, with the 30-year-old bringing valuable experience and stability on the flanks. His last appearance for the Black Stars came during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, but injuries and inconsistent club form have kept him out of the squad since.
Having recently regained fitness and featured prominently for PAOK in their Greek Super League campaign, Rahman’s performances have caught the attention of the national team selectors once again.
Rahman, who made his international debut in 2014, has earned over 40 caps for the Black Stars and featured in multiple Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualification campaigns. His return is expected to add competition to the left-back position, where the likes of Gideon Mensah and Patrick Kpozo have also featured in recent times.
The Unity Cup will serve as a preparatory platform for the Black Stars as they build towards the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September. Ghana will face Nigeria and two other invited nations Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica in what is expected to be a high-intensity tournament aimed at uniting African communities in the UK and promoting football diplomacy.
Baba Rahman joins other returning names such as Inaki Williams, as well as domestic league stars like Kwame Opoku and Benjamin Asare, who have also been called up for the tournament.
The Black Stars are expected to arrive in London in the coming days to begin preparations ahead of their opener against Nigeria on May 28.
