Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams says the government cannot dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA), despite increasing criticism of the Black Stars recent abysmal performances.
The GFA is facing increased pressure following Ghana’s back-to-back losses in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
The results have left the Black Stars at risk of missing a second successive AFCON tournament.
However, Adams insists the government does not have the authority to dissolve the GFA, which operates as an independent registered association.
“It is an Association [and] I don't think that Government has the power [to dissolve],” he told JoySports.
“We want to make sure the public interest Committee works and works for the good of all of us.
“But Government cannot dissolve the FA because it is a registered entity that pays its taxes to the appropriate authority.”
Ghana have won only one of their last eight matches in all competitions and have not recorded a victory in an AFCON qualifier since September 2023.
The GFA has also ended its relationship with Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, who was in charge of the Black Stars during their recent run of poor results.
