Black Stars technical advisor Winfried Schaefer says Ghanaian players must show dedication and consistency if they want to earn a place in the national team.

Schaefer believes players in the local league still have an important role to play in the future of the Black Stars.

He praised the quality of the local league and singled out Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who is currently the first-choice goalkeeper for the senior national team.

During his visits to different league centres, Schaefer said he has been watching matches and holding discussions with players and coaches to better understand the state of football in Ghana.

“The heart of football in Ghana is in the local league, not only with players in Europe. Over the past two months, I have been visiting league venues, speaking with coaches and players,” he told Medeamaa FM.

Schaefer added that hard work remains the key to earning national team recognition.

“The best player I have seen is Benjamin Asare, and he is the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper. I urge all players to work hard if they want to earn a call-up into the Black Stars,” he said.
