Ebenezer Annan, the defender currently plying his trade with Novi Pazar in the Serbian top flight, has expressed his surprise at receiving a call-up to the Black Stars squad at such an early stage.

The 21-year-old, who is on loan from Serie A club Bologna, was a late addition to Otto Addo’s squad for the recent friendlies against Uganda and Nigeria.

Annan made appearances in both matches, coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Nigeria and earning a starting role in the subsequent 2-2 draw against Uganda.

His performances caught the eye, potentially positioning him for inclusion in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.

“I was very happy when I received the call-up. In my mind, I was like, finally they’ve noticed my performances,” Annan shared, as quoted by GhanaSoccernet.

“When I joined Novi Pazar, my plan and effort was to do my best. I have always believed that I will play for the national team, but I didn’t expect it to come this soon.”
