Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan says he accepted to serve on the New Patriotic Party's manifesto committee in the benefit of the nation.

The former captain of the Black Stars was in February this year appointed to chair the youth and sports sub-committee of the ruling party's 2024 manifesto committee.

Gyan said despite the plaudits that will come his way as he's charged to perform, he believes serving on the committee was in the interest of the nation which greatly matters.

“I thought this was a great honour. I am not a politician, if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) came, I would have done the same thing, but they didn’t see it from that angle and the NPP saw it and contacted me," he told Asaase Radio.

“It’s a great honour for me and I was happy and poised to do it wholeheartedly, it’s for Ghana, but in Ghana, everything is related to politics,” Gyan added.
